Note: This page features many fine examples of Akira pre-production art, including layouts, genga, and douga. The layouts and genga are done by the most skilled key animators and some experienced Japanese collectors actually feel there is more intrinsic art value in them than the cels. When you purchase a layout or genga, it's like getting a sketch from the likes of Otomo, Nakamura Takasshi, Koji Morimoto, Inoue Toshiyuki, Okiura Hiroyuki, Kitakubo Hiroyuki, Ueda, or the other genga men. In fact, a lot of this preproduction art has been published in the Akira Animation Archives (ISBN #4-06-330195-8).
